1. Structure and composition
Low pressure gate valves are mainly composed of the following components:
1. Valve body
● Usually made of cast iron (HT200, QT450), cast steel (WCB) or bronze, suitable for low pressure conditions (usually ≤PN16).
2. Gate valve (valve disc)
● Divided into rigid gate valves and elastic gate valves:
● Rigid gate valves: suitable for clean media, slightly poor sealing.
● Elastic gate valves: with elastic compensation structure, better sealing, suitable for slightly grainy media.
3. Valve stem
● Divided into open rods (lifting type) and hidden rods (non-lifting type):
● Open stem: The valve stem rises and falls together with the gate valve, which is convenient for monitoring the condition of the valve and suitable for ground operation.
● Concealed stem: The valve stem does not rise or lower, suitable for space-constrained occasions.
4. Sealing material
● Valve seat seals are usually made of rubber, copper alloy, PTFE, etc., suitable for a variety of environments.
5. Control Mode
● Manual (handwheel, reducer), electric, pneumatic, etc. Low-pressure gate valves are usually operated by a handwheel.
2. Principle of operation
● Opening: Turning the handwheel, the valve stem drives the gate valve to lift, allowing the medium to flow.
● Closing: Turning the handwheel in the opposite direction, the gate valve is lowered, fits snugly against the valve seat, and cuts off the medium.
3. Main characteristics
✅ Low flow resistance: The flow channel is straight when fully opened, and the pressure loss is low.
✅ Good seal: The gate valve fits snugly against the valve seat, and the leakage rate is low.
✅ Wide range of applicable media: Can be used for water, steam, oil, gas, etc.
4. Areas of application
● Water supply and drainage systems: tap water, wastewater treatment.
● Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC): low-pressure steam, hot water piping.
● Petrochemicals: transportation of low-pressure oil, gas.
● Energy: Cooling water system
● Shipbuilding: seawater pipelines, fuels.
