1. Structure and principle of operation
● Main components: valve body, ball (round through-hole ball), valve seat, valve stem, seal and handle/actuator.
● Working principle: Switching is achieved by rotating the ball (usually 90°):
● Open: The through-hole of the ball is aligned with the pipeline, and the medium is flowing.
● Closed: The ball rotates perpendicular to the pipeline, and the through-hole is blocked by the valve seat seal.
2. Material characteristics
● Stainless steel type: 304, 316, 316L are commonly used, with the following advantages:
● Corrosion Resistance: Suitable for corrosive environments such as water, steam, acid, alkali, etc.
● High temperature resistance and high pressure resistance: Wide operating temperature range (-196°C to 500°C), some models can withstand high pressure.
● Hygiene: 316L stainless steel meets the hygiene standards of the food and pharmaceutical industries.
3. Main types
By connection method:
● Flange type: large-diameter high-pressure pipeline.
● Threaded (Internal/External Thread): Small diameter pipes.
● Welded: Permanent connection, sealed.
● Wafer: Space-constrained cases.
By design:
● Floating Ball Valve: The ball is pressed against the valve seat by medium pressure, suitable for small and medium diameters.
● Fixed ball valve: the ball is fixed, the valve seat moves under pressure, the seal is more reliable, suitable for high pressure and large diameter pipes.
By function:
● Full bore: Low flow resistance, suitable for transporting slurry or pipes that need to be cleaned.
● Reduced diameter: The valve bore is smaller than the diameter of the pipe, which saves costs but increases flow resistance.
